Mother’s Day Cards!

The official Mother’s Day is almost here! Unofficially, we should acknowledge our moms everyday! That makes sense to me!

I thought I would share a few cards I have created for this special holiday.

These card designs can also be changed into other types of cards. This is another reason I enjoy creating handmade cards, so many ideas can be used in different ways.

Thank you for visiting today, and enjoy your creative day!

April Showers Bring May Flowers & Fruit!

This blog title sure sums up how the weather has been in northern California this year! We have had record rainfall, which is great, but it seems to come all at once! Fortunately, we have had several days of sunshine sprinkled in between all the rainy and windy days!

We moved into our new home and are discovering the new plants in our yard. A grapevine, orange tree, loquat tree and a fig tree are blooming now. I can’t wait to see how the fruit will be! Not sure about the loquats, but it will be interesting to see how they taste! (I’m not a fig lover, except in cookies! If anyone has a recipe to share, it will be appreciated!)

My creative room is about eighty percent complete. I have created a few cards already and I would love to share this special one I designed for
someone who loves flamingos!

I love Graphic45 papers, and I have had this paper for awhile so it was wonderful to finally be able to use it! I love the contrasting colors, and my customer really liked this card. I had the flower appliques that matched the colors, so it was the perfect touch! This was designed as a Mother’s Day card, but I can certainly see me creating note cards, thank you cards, or birthday cards from the other panels with this beautiful paper!

Creating Butterflies!

Hello & Thanks for visiting today!

Do you like butterflies? Many of my regular readers and followers know that I feature many types of colorful butterflies on several cards I create. I love them so much that I included one in my HorseMark Cards logo!

HorseMark Cards, custom handmade greeting cards,

The easiest way to create a butterfly is by using a butterfly punch or  die. These come in many different shapes and styles and can be used with colored or textured papers to created interesting butterflies.

You can also place a die over the butterfly image on patterned papers to create a very different butterfly.  Place it over the same image or use it alone, either way works! I used this cute butterfly die from Elizabeth Craft Designs.

I added this pretty butterfly on the inside of the card. I added a solid base under the delicate butterfly to add some more dimension. Adding the little ‘fly dots’ makes it appear that this pretty butterfly flew on the card! It’s nice to open a card and also see something extra!

Another idea for adding a butterfly to your project is to use one of the many craft papers that feature butterflies. I like to fussy cut around the butterfly image. It can be layered on the same image to give it a different effect.

Many of the paper punches and dies of butterflies are smaller, so this is a great way to create several of them and use your scrap papers!

If you are going to give a card directly to your friend, instead of mailing it, you can also add some small butterflies on the envelope.  It adds a bit of fun!

I hope I have inspired you to create pretty butterflies for your projects!  They are perfect to include on many types of cards; note cards, sympathy cards, Mother’s Day cards, and birthday cards!  Butterflies can flutter anywhere!

Happy Mother’s Day!

Today is a special day set aside to honor and pay special attention to Mothers! If you are a mother-to-be or a mom to special people in your lives, this is also a day to say ‘thank you’ for all that you do. Today is also a day to remember the moms that are no longer with us. My mom has been gone for almost six years now, but keeping good memories of her will always be with me. I am fortunate to be celebrating this Mother’s Day with my husband and our two sons. I hope you will also be able to spend time with your children, both young and old.

‘Thinking of You’ Flower Card!

I hope you enjoyed your weekend. I spent some time in my craft room with scissors, inks, stamps, and some imagination.

"Thinking of You" flower card with butterflies created by HorseMark Cards

This is one card I created using a flower stamp from Great Impressions. I blended red and orange inks over this pretty flower stamp, then cut it out. I also stamped and cut the leaves from some small paper scraps I wanted to use. The striped leaves give them a different look. To give this card a balanced look, I also used the striped paper as side borders to tie in with the leaves.

You know me! The butterflies had to be added to this card! I decided to include the stamped “Thinking of You” messsage on this card, but I know I will be making other cards similar to this one. Perhaps a “Happy Mother’s Day” or a “Thank You” card will be created soon! This layout would also be appropriate for a sympathy card. So many ideas!

Thank you for stopping by. I hope you also had a creative and fun day!
