Paper Trip to Paris!

The opportunity to visit Paris has not crossed my path. Yet. I have been fortunate to have visited other places — Japan, Singapore, England and Australia, to name a few. I hope to travel to more places in the future, but for now I will stay near my zip code.

I have visited the sale aisles of several craft stores in my area though! On one such visit, I came across a selection of craft paper books that normally sell for $20 that were on special for only $5. Well, every crafty person knows you can’t pass on a deal like that! Especially when they have several selections of themed craft paper books!

These papers were purchased a few years ago and I have used many of them. Today I would like to share some handcrafted cards I designed using the Paris collection of “My Favorite Things.”

Several papers in this collection have larger images on them that can be used for scrapbook pages. Since I need smaller images on my cards, I cut out portions of these images. I also use them as backgrounds on my cards.

It feels good to use older papers that have been in my paper stash. When I see new papers I always want to get them, but then remember that I already have so many. A true case of ‘too many papers, not enough time to use them!’

Since these papers are probably out of stock, I will only be able to create one or two of these. If you know someone who loves all things ‘Paris’, I would like to create a card for them! Contact me at horsemarkcards@gmail.com for more information.

Thank You for Your Blogs!

Hello and welcome to my blog!

While browsing through my Facebook feed, I noticed that some of my favorite blogs and friends’ pages were absent. Well, this seems to be the ongoing problem with Facebook as it tries to determine what we want to see. That’s another story.

This did prompt me to switch over to my wordpress blog feed and check out some bloggers that I was also not seeing in my reader. As I began to click on blogs that I was following, I found the reason for their absence in my feed. Many bloggers were no longer blogging, or had not posted for quite some time.

Blogging takes an incredible amount of time, so I can understand why some of these blogs became dormant, or were dissolved. Most of the blogs that I followed that no longer exist were not blogs that were sponsored or produced income. I would hope they were blogging for their own personal interest and they decided to take a break or move on to something that gave them the same sense of accomplishment that inspired them to begin a blog in the first place. I will miss them, but wish them success in their new ventures.

My blog is about four years old now and I still enjoy it. Many times I have slacked in posting on a consistent schedule, but I have always come back within a short time. Sometimes a break is needed to recapture the spark of blogging , or personal life takes priority over preparing a post.

If you have a blog and are still enjoying it, I wish you well and hope it continues to give you good feelings. For those that have stopped blogging, or those that are thinking of starting a blog, I also wish you the best. Whatever one decides to do, much happiness to you!

People Still Give Greeting Cards!

Sending an actual greeting card through ‘snail mail’ is not as popular these days. Our current generation has grown up with greetings sent and received via the internet and cell phones. Wishing friends ‘Happy Birthday’ through their Facebook account is the ‘norm’ these days. It’s quick and easy to do in our fast-paced world.

Many people think that sending an actual greeting card through the ‘snail mail’ is becoming obsolete. Allow me to tell you why I don’t think this will happen by sharing some actual experiences I have had with friends and family.

An elderly aunt loves to receive a card in her mailbox. She displays it for days for her family and friends to see, and she loves sharing it.

A dear friend suffers from migraines and the last thing she wants to do is look at a glaring computer screen or squint to see her cell phone messages. She appreciates the cards I send her and has even framed one!

Another friend looks at computers all day at work (usually 10 hour shifts) and she completely tunes out of the internet when she is at home at night and weekends. She says it helps to keep her ‘balanced’.

An actual birthday card was given to a friend at her workplace. She was able to display it on her desk and be reminded of her thoughtful friend. Her co-workers were also able to enjoy it.

I recently had a custom order of cards from a man who wanted a collection of note cards to give his mom for her birthday. He was at a loss of what to give her, and knew she liked sending notes to her friends.  (She does not have a computer or cell phone.)

Some people do not have online accounts, cell phones, or even access to the internet. These are not just elderly people of another generation. (My mother-in-law is 91 and is very active online!) Some people may not be able to afford a computer, a cell phone, or have access to internet service. (Yes! There are many people that fall into these categories.)  While many of us take for granted our ‘computerized’ world, there are some that are left out of this technology for various reasons. Some people simply choose to exclude this ‘online world’ from their lives.

I do know that many people, of all ages, still prefer to send an actual card for some special occasions:  Mother’s Day, Valentine’s Day, weddings, the arrival of a new baby, and other events or holidays.  There is also a time when giving an actual card is an absolute must – a sympathy card.

The important idea is that we  need to stay in touch with our friends and family and acknowledge events in their lives. Saying ‘Happy Birthday’ or ‘Thank You’ or ‘Congratulations’ on social media is fine. I just think saying it with an actual card is a more personal way of expressing your feelings to someone.

What are your thoughts on sending greeting cards? I would love to hear from you!

Thank you for visiting today and enjoy your creative day!

Disclaimer….In spite of having a card business, these feelings are genuine. Purchasing cards from me is desired, of course, but I feel it is more important to send someone a card, no matter where you purchase it.
