Who Put That in a Mailbox?

Hello Crafty Friends!

I am back to share what I have been up to lately. I fell in love with the mailbox stamp and die set from Spellbinder’s.

Here are a few of the cards I created using this set from Spellbinder’s Mailbox Die set.

I used patterned paper scraps on the background of this card. Balloons in the mailbox are perfect for a birthday card. The little pooch adds some whimsy to this fun card!

I created card for a wonderful man who has two beach houses. Seashells and starfish happen to wash up on shore and found their way to this mailbox. I can see this as a thank you card if you have rented a beach house for a fun vacation!

Any mail carrier would love to receive a card thanking them for delivering your mail and giving the neighborhood dogs a treat. I would think this card would make them smile!

This mailbox could also have newspapers in the box for the person who delivers your newspaper. (Yes, some people still have a newspaper delivered to their homes!)

I loved creating this card for a special person who loves cats! I fussy cut each cat from a background stamp. It seemed appropriate that cats would be curious about the inside of a mailbox. Such a fun card!

There are endless possibilities for using this mailbox die set…

Filling it with baby items and stamping ‘Special Delivery’ on the front would make a cute baby shower card! I am also thinking of flowers, small forest animals, candy and fishing and other hobby supplies to be used for so many occasions!

Re-Purposing Gift Bags!

Hello my crafty friends!

I hope you enjoyed your Christmas and holiday celebrations with your family and friends!

Now that the holiday gift giving season is winding down, I want to share an idea I have for saving the gift bags that are no longer able to be reused.

Once the gift bags are torn or part of the design are covered with old ‘To’ and ‘From’ stickers, they need to be given a new life.

I cut out a portion of the bag and put it on a card front. I also fussy cut a sweater image and added some foam tape on it and attached it over the same image on the paper.

Bits and pieces of left over Starfoam border stickers were used to accent the edges of this new card.

Another Christmas gift bag that was used several times and could have been tossed into the trash was used to create two other cards.

This well-used gift bag had large panels of Santa Clause and some holly sprigs. One of the Santa panels had a crease in it that I was unable to completely get out. (I ran it through my Platinum 6 embossing machine to flatten the crease a bit.)

I placed a strip of paper with a thank you sentiment stamped on it across the creased part of the panel. Problem solved!

A panel of a sprig of holly from the same gift bag was used to create another thank you card.

These two well used Christmas gift bags could have been tossed in the trash, but instead they were repurposed into greeting cards that can be used as a note card or a thank you card. Hopefully these cards will used to send a note of thanks to someone special.

I hope this encourages you to save a gift bag and turn it into a note card or a thank you card. It always feels good to repurpose something into something new!

‘She Loves Pink’ Thank You Card!

Hello Dear Readers!

We enjoyed our recent trip to Oregon and California to visit family and friends. We only stayed in a hotel one night, so I have several Thank You cards to send to express our appreciation for the wonderful hospitality we enjoyed during our trip.

This cute stamp from My Favorite Things is adorable. She is part of the Pure Innocence collection. I have had it for several years so it may not be available, but there are other cute stamps similar to this one!

I stamp the image on patterned paper and layer it on the image. It was perfect to put on a thank you card I created for a little girl that let me stay in her bed at her grandparents’ house. She loves pink!

The tiny rick rack was a perfect touch, along with the tiny butterflies! I usually decorate the outside of the envelope and I tuck the card between an embossed folder to protect it from the mailing process.

I hope she will be excited to receive this card in the mail! Little kids love getting mail addressed to them!

My stash includes this tiny rick rack I had from my grandmother’s sewing box. As you can see, the price on this indicates how old it is! It was still sealed and was perfect for this card and I can use it on a baby card too!

When I attached the rick rack to the card, I wanted to make sure it stayed in place. I wrapped it around the top and bottom of the card, then secured it with a bit of glue. I have a handy trick I use to secure small items on cards.

It was fun creating this card and I hope it brings a smile to a very special five year old girl!

Older Still Works!

Hello Crafty Friends!

I know we all have a few supplies in our stash, and if you are like me some of them have been around for awhile. How many of you remember these punches from Fiskars?

Fiskars Stamp Punch Set

I love these edge punches and used them several times in the past. Somehow they got lost in the back of my stamp drawer, but I found them and created this card.

I thought this leaf pattern paired nicely with the image of the tree on the paper. I sprayed the front of the card with Imagine Sheer Shimmer Spray. It gives a nice finish to the card, it reminded me of the morning dew you find on the tree leaves.

This is a card I created several years ago using one of the Fiskar punches. Looking back at the cards I created, I can see the progress and changes in the cards I have made. Always room for improvement!

I will be creating more cards using these punches now that I have rediscovered them. Punches seemed to have been tossed to the way side to make room for the many die cuts we use in our machines now, but I will continue to use my old supplies. Older still works!

It’s a Cover-Up!

Hello! I appreciate you taking the time to visit my blog today!

When I create cards, sometimes a design requires a bit of a ‘cover-up’ to make sure the completed card meets my high standards.

The front of a card is the star. When you look inside the card, the printed message and any decorations must also shine. Even the left inside, or top inside, of the card needs to look polished.

If the front of a card has been cut to reveal something on the inside, both sides must look finished.

This heart card is one of my favorites! When I finished the front and lined up the heart on the inside, I goofed. It was a bit off and you could see a part of it when the card was closed. Luckily, the pretty paper has the beautiful flowers which were easy to fussy cut. So, the white inside heart where you would write a message has a flower added to the top! Problem fixed!

When I created this ’Strength and Hope’ card, I realized after I adhered the front panel that the top corner was a bit off. The solution… A purple heart covered it and I don’t think it looks out of place.

Sometimes fixing a problem on a card requires a ’snip’ or two. When I opened this ‘Hello’ card to finish the inside, the top corner accidentally came in contact with an open ink pad. (My fault..always close your inks when not using.) Since it resulted in a smudge, I simply cut the corner and also cut the bottom to match.

I am a fan and frequent user of the ’cover up’ technique in creating cards! Spending time creating a card means I want it to look nice in every way when finished. I am proud of my cards and I hope the people who receive them enjoy them.
