Paper Trip to Paris!

The opportunity to visit Paris has not crossed my path. Yet. I have been fortunate to have visited other places — Japan, Singapore, England and Australia, to name a few. I hope to travel to more places in the future, but for now I will stay near my zip code.

I have visited the sale aisles of several craft stores in my area though! On one such visit, I came across a selection of craft paper books that normally sell for $20 that were on special for only $5. Well, every crafty person knows you can’t pass on a deal like that! Especially when they have several selections of themed craft paper books!

These papers were purchased a few years ago and I have used many of them. Today I would like to share some handcrafted cards I designed using the Paris collection of “My Favorite Things.”

Several papers in this collection have larger images on them that can be used for scrapbook pages. Since I need smaller images on my cards, I cut out portions of these images. I also use them as backgrounds on my cards.

It feels good to use older papers that have been in my paper stash. When I see new papers I always want to get them, but then remember that I already have so many. A true case of ‘too many papers, not enough time to use them!’

Since these papers are probably out of stock, I will only be able to create one or two of these. If you know someone who loves all things ‘Paris’, I would like to create a card for them! Contact me at horsemarkcards@gmail.com for more information.

A Quick Hello!

Hello!

I thought I would share this birthday card designed with cards that I created for someone very special a couple of years ago.

Birthday card created with cards

Remember to give a card to the people in your life. They will appreciate it! In today’s fast paced world, receiving something in the mail that isn’t junk or a bill will certainly be opened first!

Hope you enjoy your creative day!

Free iPhone Screen Cover!

We are still settling into our new home and enjoying our neighborhood. When the rain finally stopped and the sun came out, I decided to take a walk with my poodle pooch, Robbie.

I always take my phone with me when I walk, just in case I get an important call or message. Well, my phone dinged and I stopped to pull it out of my pocket to check on who was messaging me. Robbie doesn’t like me to stop when he is walking, so naturally he pulled a bit on his leash and down my phone went! Of course it landed face down on the sidewalk!

Smashed iPhone, iPhone,cracked screen,

If you’re like me, you can’t be without your cell phone. ( I can’t believe I lived without one for most of my life! However did I manage!)
A new phone was needed immediately!

If you are also like me, you hate setting foot into a cell phone service store! I don’t mean to disrespect the employees, but I do disrespect the high prices on the services and products they have to offer. Like the $40 screen protector they wanted me to buy! I just spent over $500 on a phone and now you want me to spend more? I could get a less expensive screen protector somewhere else.

So, I did. I spent $15 on a screen protector that was supposed to be every bit as good as the higher priced ones. Yea, I know. My husband gave me the “You get what you pay for” look. When I carefully put it on my phone, the ‘bubbles’ would not come out! It was a mess! (In my frustration, I failed to get a picture of it.). Needless to say, it was taken off after several attempts to smooth it out.

I just wasted money, but I knew I needed something to protect the face of my phone, especially since I keep it a little case that also holds a few essential cards & cash. I was not going to spend another $40, so I decided to come up with my own solution.

iPhone, iphone screen cover, protecting iphone, repurposing cleaning cloths

This idea works for me. It is easy to flip the cloth over to see the screen when I use it. I tilt the phone a bit when I close it and the fabric cloth falls into place so I can close my phone case. It also keeps my screen cleaner and didn’t cost me a dime!

Every now and then I offer up an idea that has nothing to do with designing handmade cards. So this is another little creative tip that I hope will be useful for someone!

Thanks for visiting today and I wish you another creative day!

Pretty in Pink Birthday Card for a Golfer!

Hello!

I hope all is well with you and you’re enjoying some creative time!

A special birthday card was requested for a female golfer. Yes, there are lots of girls and ladies that enjoy a good round of golf!

The only stamp or digital image I had for golfing was this little man that I’ve had for awhile and used a lot! I decided I would create my own golfing girl. I love the little girl stamps from My Favorite Things. You can see that this cute stamp has been used!

I wanted to fit a golf club in the girl’s hand, but decided a golf flag would also be appropriate. Since my customer wanted this card in shades of pink, this is what I designed!

The outfit and shoes on this stamp are not colored; I cut out papers and layered them on the stamp. This is a great way to use those little scraps of papers! This was a fun card to design and I love the challenge of creating something original! I love to mix and match stamps to come up with different ideas.

My customer said this card was perfect, so I am pleased that I have another satisfied person that gives greeting cards!

I hope I’ve inspired you to mix up your stamps and digital designs to create something new!

Enjoy your creative day!

Thank You for Your Blogs!

Hello and welcome to my blog!

While browsing through my Facebook feed, I noticed that some of my favorite blogs and friends’ pages were absent. Well, this seems to be the ongoing problem with Facebook as it tries to determine what we want to see. That’s another story.

This did prompt me to switch over to my wordpress blog feed and check out some bloggers that I was also not seeing in my reader. As I began to click on blogs that I was following, I found the reason for their absence in my feed. Many bloggers were no longer blogging, or had not posted for quite some time.

Blogging takes an incredible amount of time, so I can understand why some of these blogs became dormant, or were dissolved. Most of the blogs that I followed that no longer exist were not blogs that were sponsored or produced income. I would hope they were blogging for their own personal interest and they decided to take a break or move on to something that gave them the same sense of accomplishment that inspired them to begin a blog in the first place. I will miss them, but wish them success in their new ventures.

My blog is about four years old now and I still enjoy it. Many times I have slacked in posting on a consistent schedule, but I have always come back within a short time. Sometimes a break is needed to recapture the spark of blogging , or personal life takes priority over preparing a post.

If you have a blog and are still enjoying it, I wish you well and hope it continues to give you good feelings. For those that have stopped blogging, or those that are thinking of starting a blog, I also wish you the best. Whatever one decides to do, much happiness to you!

Enjoy your creative day!
