‘Button Up’ a Card!

Hello Crafty People!

I am still trying to use up my massive collection of embellishments, some of which I have had for several years!

Today, I am focusing on the decorative buttons you find at the fabric stores and on the craft aisles at many stores.

Many buttons are flat and easy to attach on a card, but some have the little sewing loop on the back. This adds bulk to a card, so I decided to snip it off!

Once the loop is snipped, the button can be attached to a card. There is still dimension from the flat button and it may require extra postage if the card is mailed. I usually tuck the card in an embossed folder, then put it in an envelope. This method helps protect the button from being damaged when it is processed through the mail.

I attached this little hedgehog button to this birthday card for a special little kid! It ties in with the little forest critters paper I’ve had in my stash for a few years. Creating this card was a wonderful way to use up items from my patterned paper and embellishment collections!

I hope this gives you some ideas on how to use buttons you may have stashed away! Buttons are always in a crafter’s collection!

Embossed Card Repair!

Hello Readers!

I hope you and your families are doing okay, both physically and mentally. These are trying times and we must all do our part to get through these days.

One of the activities that has really helped me is creating my handmade greeting cards. It is a way for me to ‘escape’ the realities of today’s world and focus on something positive.

Yesterday I took a solid piece of card stock and embossed it with one of my favorite ‘swirly’ designs. The paper had a white core, and part of the embossed design revealed several white spots. Well, that was not going to work with the card I had in mind.

Since I do not like to waste papers, I decided to fix the exposed white spots. I turned to my tried and true (and old) chalks. I found the perfect shade to match my paper and started covering up the spots! It worked! I went ahead and lightly dusted the entire surface to give it a more consistent look.

I was very pleased with the results of my repaired background. You can see cracks in the chalks, but they still work beautifully when I need them!

This is the card I created. I love this little squirrel stamp, (also very old) and hope the person I am sending it to will like enjoy it.

(The background looks darker, but it is the same background. I need to work on my photography skills!)

Sending cards is more important now than before, as so many seniors, veterans and others are feeling isolated since they can’t have visitors. If they receive a card it will help them remember they are not alone.

Thank you for supporting HorseMark Cards. Stay Safe.

Funny Birthday Cards!

Many people enjoy receiving a birthday card that makes them laugh! Especially birthday people who have celebrated many, many birthdays!

No matter what kind of a birthday card you choose to give, it is extra nice to present a real card! They can look at it later, display it, and remember their celebration. Plus, they will appreciate your thoughtfulness!

Here are two funny birthdays cards I created that will result in a smile, maybe even a chuckle or two!

I used the stamp set from ‘Inky Antics‘ to create this funny birthday card. When you scratch off the circles, the words ‘liver spots’, “wrinkles”, and “adult diapers” are revealed. There are many other words included in this set, and you can even create you own!

There are many embossing folders on the craft market. I chose one that looks like a quilt to create this next card. I used the top portion of an “Art Impressions” stamp of an old woman and tucked her in bed. My customer really liked this card!

Birthday Card for a Golfer!

Well, January is behind us and hopefully you are enjoying the days in February. Birthdays, Valentine’s Day, weddings, and other special events are all a part of February. Today’s post is all about birthdays! In this case, ninety-two birthdays!

I would like to share a birthday card I created for a 92 year-old gentleman that enjoys golf. Yep! Golfing is a sport one can continue well into their golden years, as long as their health allows them!

Creating this card was like a fun puzzle. The small die-cut golf cart set from Memory Box has several little pieces. I added some sparkling stickers for the wheels of the cart. The polka dot embossed background was inverted so it would resemble the tiny dimbles of a golf ball. The stamped balloons from Darcie’s Circus Birthday collection were hand cut and tied to the back of the golf cart with silver thread. They were also mounted on foam squares to add more dimension to the card.

My customer requested a funny card, so I matched the inside message with the golf score. (Which is a golf score I would love to have!) I hope the birthday golfer will get a chuckle from this message.

Creating personalized cards for special people is one of the reasons I enjoy handmade cards. When someone receives a card they know was created just for them, they are sure to appreciate the extra effort the sender gave to thinking about them.

Take some time to check your calendar for special cards that you need to send to someone special. A personalized card would put a smile on their face! If you need some ideas, I am here to help!

Enjoy your creative time and thanks so much for stopping by for a visit!

Just Looking In On You!

handmade note card with kittenshandmade note card with kittens, thinking of you card

I really enjoyed creating this ‘thinking of you’ note card and wanted to share it with you. The cute kittens stamp is from Great Impressions. (I have had it for a few years so I don’t know if it is still available.) It is one of my favorite stamps! The little paws are ‘popped’ over the paw prints embossed paper bags. I used colored pencils to add a bit of color to the little furry friends. The ‘Just looking in on you…to see how you’re doing’ stamp is from the Home is Happiness stamp set by Darcie’s. I love mixing different stamps in my projects and these two seemed perfect together!

Even if you are not a ‘cat’ person, I hope this card still puts a smile on your face!

Enjoy your Creative Day!
